New Manufacturing Plant to Bring Skilled Jobs to Central Arkansas
A manufacturer announced plans this week to build a plant in central Arkansas, a project state and local officials hailed as a win for the region's long push to diversify its economy beyond agriculture.
The company said it chose the site for its access to highways and rail, a growing workforce, and an incentive package tied to job-creation targets. The plant is expected to produce components for the transportation and energy sectors and to hire skilled workers such as machinists, welders, and technicians.
Economic developers said the announcement reflects a broader effort to attract advanced manufacturing to Arkansas, where wages in such jobs tend to run higher than in retail or hospitality. They pointed to workforce-training partnerships with community colleges as a selling point.
Construction is slated to begin next year. Company leaders said they would begin recruiting well before the plant opens, working with local schools to build a pipeline of qualified applicants.
