Ozark Poultry Co. to Expand Processing Plant, Add Hundreds of Jobs
Ozark Poultry Co., a fictional Arkansas producer, announced plans this week to expand one of its processing plants, a project executives said would add hundreds of jobs and modernize operations to meet rising demand.
Poultry remains one of Arkansas's signature industries, and the company said the investment would help it compete in a market squeezed by volatile feed costs and thin margins. The expansion includes new processing lines and automation intended to boost output while easing some of the most physically demanding tasks on the floor.
Company leaders said the plant would recruit widely in the surrounding region, offering training programs for maintenance technicians and line supervisors. Local officials welcomed the news, calling agriculture-linked manufacturing a backbone of rural employment.
Labor advocates said they would watch to ensure the new jobs come with fair pay and safe conditions, long-standing concerns in the industry. The company said construction would begin later this year, with hiring ramping up as new lines come online.
