Lake Ouachita: Clear Water and Island-Dotted Escapes
Lake Ouachita, the largest lake entirely within Arkansas, draws boaters, anglers, and campers to its exceptionally clear water and hundreds of undeveloped, tree-covered islands.
Because much of the shoreline is protected national forest, the lake has stayed remarkably pristine, with clean water prized by swimmers, divers, and paddlers. The scattered islands invite exploration and offer secluded spots to anchor or camp.
Fishing is a major draw, with the lake known for bass, catfish, and other species. Marinas and outfitters rent boats and gear, and campgrounds ring the shore for those who want to stay close to the water.
A scenic trail also encircles much of the lake, offering hiking and mountain biking with frequent water views. Travelers said Lake Ouachita's combination of clarity, seclusion, and recreation makes it one of the finest outdoor destinations in the state.
