Bentonville Approves New Neighborhood as Housing Demand Surges
Bentonville leaders approved a large new residential development this week, betting that a fresh supply of homes will help ease one of the region's hottest and most expensive housing markets.
The project will bring hundreds of houses and townhomes, along with trails, parks, and space set aside for future retail, on land that had been farm and pasture. City officials said the development includes a range of home sizes intended to attract both first-time buyers and families moving to the area for work.
Northwest Arkansas has drawn thousands of new residents in recent years, straining housing and roads. Supporters said adding supply is the surest way to keep prices in check, while some neighbors raised familiar concerns about traffic and school crowding.
Developers agreed to fund road improvements near the site as part of the approval. Construction is expected to begin next year and roll out in phases over several years.
